Today I went over to the city Delft with Margreet, Lotte and her friend. Delft has so much history there it was so cool to go see it all first hand! Margreet knows so much history of Holland and all the places so its fun going places with her, shes my own personal tour guide :] When i say there is a lot of water in Holland i dont think anyone really understands that there is water EVERYWHERE..but i find it so pretty. Theres water in front of houses and along the streets we walked in Delft today. We didnt know there would be a huge street market so it was kind of a bummer for taking better pictures of the New Church (picture to the left) and City Hall (left hand side on next paragraph) but i still managed. The street market took up the whole space in between the two..which was rather large. We went into the "New Church" (its called the new church because there is a church also in Delft that was built before it) and Margreet paid so we could go look inside. I got some awesome pictures. It really was humongous. At the very other end of the church is where there is an big slate that covers up the stairs that go down underneath the church where all the royalty of Holland is buried. The very first king ever King William was shot and killed in Delft so he is buried in the church and ever since then all of the royalty have been buried underneath the church floors..it creeps Margreet out. haha. Also the glass painted windows are so gorgeous you can see the pictures so vividly which sadly doesnt really show on camera. Margreet was sure to get me an english brochure on the way out so I could read about the Old and New church which im glad she did because its really cool.
We left that church and we walked through the market to City Hall where I took some pictures. Then Margreet pointed out how all the houses had different rooftops and she explained that was because when people built their houses they got to build the tops how they wanted and so they were different and she said its just like that in Amsterdam (which is where she is from). Then we walked over to the Old Church, but we didnt go inside because there really not such cool history there like the other church and because it is leaning in its old age and we didnt wanna test our luck! so instead we went to a local cafe and had a drink then walked the streets back around and came upon a SUBWAY in the middle of nowhere. we got lunch there but their menu if different and you cant just get mustard and stuff like that. I swear i've eaten so much salami since ive been here! After that we came back home because we had practice tonight.
We had our first actual mandatory team practice tonight (which of course not everyone was there) but there were 10 of us and our head coach was there as well. The pitchers throw before practice and once again today I got a crowd...they just love my riseball haha. I've been helping another pitcher on our team Anja and she is really eager to learn pitches. I will be starting lessons with the younger girls who want to pitch on tuesday and its gonna be exciting but probably overwhelming with at least 6 girls. Our head coach Gyselle then called us all in and we did some middle infield reps that involved alot of running and alot of me not wanting to be a middle infielder! its really NOT for me. after doing that for a while she put us in positions and guess where i played?? CENTER FIELD!! yep thats right. haha. I love it. and I love that when anyone messes up no one gets mad or cares, we're literally having fun for once. Then we did bunting rotations and im batting 1000 in bunts haha. then we did soft toss with a partner and practice was over.
After practice we all went into the clubhouse and had ice cream or drinks and by then the first mens baseball team was finishing practice so when they came in Frans introduced me to them. I still cant remember anyones name. But I guess they were excited to meet me Frans said. A couple of weeks ago they asked him when I was coming and what my name was and he told me he gave them the website at Redlands so they went online to see what i looked like. I thought it was funnyyy. Well its 11:30pm here now and im gonna be up early so I am off to bed.
Greetz,
Olivia
